The Peretz family

David Peretz’s parents, Avraham (of blessed memory) and Mazal Peretz, were born in Morocco and immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1948 with their families. When they arrived, they lived in transit camps, and later moved to Jerusalem, to the Katamonim neighborhood, where they met and married. They later moved to the Musrara neighborhood. The couple had eight children—seven daughters and one son.
Mazal worked in cleaning, and Avraham first worked as a clothing salesman and later as a gravedigger. Before 1967, they lived with their children on Haayin Het Street in Musrara, and later moved to live in public housing.
In an interview, David Peretz, the son, talks about his parents and about growing up in Musrara, describing how the living conditions affected the neighborhood, his family, and himself.
