Avraham and Hana Amar were born and lived in Casablanca, Morocco, with their children Shalom and Shula (Zehara). The father was a shoe merchant and importer. The family immigrated in 1949 on the ship Artza and arrived at the Pardes Hanna transit camp. Afterwards, the family moved to live on HaMishmarot Street in Musrara. In Israel, the mother worked in cleaning, the father worked in construction, and later returned to commerce.
